iron Metal How do I get the ickey build up off of my curling iron without ruining the metal?
I can't seem to get the scunge that builds up on my straightening iron( build up from hairspray, mousse etc) off. I've tried scraping with a sharp knife, but that seems to scratch the metal. Any safe ideas?
Use Soft scrub and a sponge. Make sure you use just a tiny bit so it is easy to rinse off without damaging the appliance ( use a damped cloth or paper towel for rinsing )

Sodom-Iron Fist
General questions about metal, steel, iron.. What is it, where does it come from, how is it made by ancients?
Like, if someone had a metal/steel/iron axe that could cut trees, how did they create it? From first process, to final process?
The progression from stone to copper to bronze (first made with arsenic, later with tin) to iron and steel is slightly different in various parts of the world.
Egypt and Persia always seemed to be ahead of others in the Western areas and China and Japan leaders in the East.
Starting by using native metal nuggets and later from smelting ores, metals were used in tools and weapons. Pure copper is soft, bronzes harder and iron and steel the hardest. All metals need to be worked (forged) to get best results.
The process of hammering makes most metals harder and more brittle. Shaping is also done mostly by hammering. Cutting and drilling came very much later. Sharpening was originally done by using stones. Handles were first joined much like for stone heads but later used different techniques.
Good ideas by you all. I'm going to use the gift card to slowly replace the plastic items in my house with more durable metal, glass, wood or bamboo items.
I think some food saver bags will be good (already have the food saver) and I'm eyeing a glass storage jar for flour.
Sadly, they don't have Razzles. Only Bed, Bath and Beyond does in the whole city!
I already have enough cast iron and metal stock pots to choke a horse. But maybe one non-enameled cast iron pan in case I want to use it over an open fire.
They sell my organic flour there too so I might just use the card to build up my stockpile of flour too.
