iron Bathroom How to get stains off bathroom counter top?
Ok I left my curling iron on too long and it left a light brown mark on my countertop. I dont know for sure what the countertop is made out of but it looks like a off white marble of some kind. I already tried toothpaste and baking soda - didnt work. And i dont want to scratch it - so I dont want to use anything too abrasive. Thanks!
unfortunately the mark is a burn not a stain. Without resurfacing the the counter top you will probably always have a reminder to turn you curling iron off.

Malleable iron is the oldest member of the family of nodular irons. Like all nodular irons, malleable iron exhibits good ductility. Incorrectly considered by some to be an "old" or "dead" material, malleable iron still has a legitimate place in the design engineer's toolbar. Malleable is the iron of choice for small castings or castings with thin cross sections (less than .25"). Other nodular irons tend to be difficult to produce in these applications. Malleable iron is also preferred for castings seeing duty in low temperature environments since it retains its ductility better than other nodular irons at low temperatures. Used for small castings requiring good tensile strength and the ability to flex without breaking (ductility). Recently purchased a new solid black with silver patina wrought iron bed with metal rails from the internet. When it arrived the boxes had an oder and we quickly put it together discarding them. It is the bed which has a sort of sooty/paint musty type of smell which is permiating the room. The box spring and mattress are not on the bed as of yet. I notified the company and they said to wipe it down with a DRY cloth and it should be okay. I have done this 4 times and each time black residue appears on the cloth. Any suggestions what is wrong and how to remove the oder.
Call them again and tell them the issue. Dry wiping something is not going to do anything except remove dust or anything lying on top of the surface (and not well). Tell them they need to let you know what kind of product you can use to CLEAN this bed with and that if it doesnt stop the smell you will expect a full refund. I mean what if you put on brand new expensive bedding and then it got black stuff all over it? They need to be a little more cautious with the quality of the product they are sending out.
It most likely has something to do with some kind of chemical or oil that they put on the bed so like I said, find out what it can be cleaned with and give that a shot.

Black iron is cast iron black the whole way through?
i got a cast iron skillet from my grandmother and the inside bottom is a dull brown color. i don't think it's rust because it won't scrub off--it just keeps coming no matter how much i scrub or wipe it. i almost think it's what's underneath the black exterior of the cookware. Is that possible or is cast iron black the whole way through? (i haven't seasoned it yet and don't know when it last was, if ever) is anything wrong with it?
Cast iron skillets are cast iron all the way through (some of the newer cast iron *pots* --called "Dutch ovens"-- may also be coated with colored enameling inside and/or out, but not cast iron skillets).
The brown color you see is either the "natural color" of the iron somewhat oxidized or actual rust layer (which has to be sanded off... scrubbing won't do much). The black color eventually happens to a very well seasoned cast iron piece because it's had some kind of fat baked onto it many-many-many times, which also makes the surface fairly non-stick (and that smooth black color is highly prized!).
You should definitely hang onto that one though (and fix it up) rather than buying a new one because the older ones were much smoother from the start and make the best and quickest non-stick surfaces!
There are various ways to fix up old cast iron skillets (and many people prowl thrift stores, etc., just to find them), but basically you'll need to sand them smooth (opinions vary on what to use), then "season" with fat and lots of heat for a few hours. (Many people also feel the first use should be with something really fatty and/or fried.) After that, every time the skillet is used (and rinsed and oiled again properly) it will build up more and more of that wonderful well-seasoned black surface.

I'm getting a small conure and I see a lkot of wrought iron bird cages for sale. Is that a good material? What are some other good materials for bird cages?
Stainless steel is good but very expensive. Buy a cage with powder coating so that it's nto dangerous to your bird. wrought iron sounds ok, but never buy decorative wood cages since a conure could EASILY chew through it in an hour and then escape. Wrought iron is ok for smaller conures, jsut be careufl. You get what you pay for.
