You should be able to get the gates for $200 or less each if getting 2.
One large one may cost more.
The gate openers will cost more. There is a brand called Mighty Mule that cost about $500 - $600 for a single gate or $600 - $800 for double gates. I have a friend that had one of these but it gave him a lot of trouble.
I have done maintenance on the more expensive ones: US Automatic and OSCO. These are commercial openers and I think, but am not sure, cost about $1000 - $2000 each. This type has a complex installation to them as they are in commercial use.
These companies may make a non-commercial version for less.

How to make a sliding gate for driveway?
I am trying to make a sliding gate and could do with some pointers.
The gate will be 4m wide x 1m high. I am getting it made from wrought iron by a local blacksmith. But Although I know it needs to be on wheels running in a track, I don't know where I can buy them from. I am thinking that I need about 8-9m of RSJ buried in the ground where the gate will slide along with a metal dowel welded to it, then the gate should have wheels which run on the dowel. But I have no idea if this is the best method or even the correct way of doing it. On top of this query, once the gate is sitting on its track or similar, how do you support the top so it stands upright?
Ultimately once the gate is working I plan to add an electric gate kit so it can be opened from the car - so all in all it is quite a big DIY project...
So any advice or weblinks or advice greatly received - especially in respect to where I can get these from.

A metal shop should have a roller that helps support the gate at the top to hold it upright, and make sure it opens right. It is U shaped and fits over the top of the gate.You could also use a caster and U channel steel. anything to keep it straight.
wrought iron How to clean up painted wrought iron?
Hello to all, I have the chance to purchase a wrought iron piece that is from the late 1800's, it is wearing several coats of paint that look terrible, some of the original metal is exposed, some is under tons of paint, could someone advise me the best way to deal with that if I buy it?
Also it is cracked in one spot, a clean break, could a welder fix that? Thanks in advance.
I have a few options that you can choose.
1) The easiest is to take the piece to a local metal working shop. They can do everything for a reasonable price.
2) If you have to do it yourself; Home Depot rents many tools. I haven't seen a self-contained sand blasting unit though.
To sand blast your piece you will need a high volume air compressor and a sand blaster unit. You will also need to purchase sand or another abrasive medium.
It is very important to use either a full face respirator or a respirator and safety glasses. The dust from silica sand (the most common media) can damage your lungs. It's also advisable to wear coveralls or the like as the sand gets everywhere! (Can you say sand in your shorts?)
Take the piece somewhere that a lot of sand will not be a problem and have at it! once the piece is clean, "Rust-Mort" or a similar product uses phosphoric acid to convert the iron oxide to iron phosphate which doesn't rust. Then, use a good direct to metal paint. "Hammerite" or "Rustolium" will do the job. There are also textured paints some folks like.
3) you can use a paint stripping compound. I have never had much success with this option. Paint it on, wait, then remove it with the paint. I usually have to do this several times. The final step is repainting your piece with the above paint options.
Clean up and install your piece. Have a drink, you survived.

My chihuahua can slip through the bars of our wrought iron fence and escape onto the street. We would prefer not to put chicken wire up around the yard in order to contain him which would really diminish the attractiveness of our yard. We are unsure of what would be a better alternative. Our fence is a light beige color. I have heard of electronic dog fencing, however, that appears to be pretty expensive. I'd love a more economical, but attractive alternative. Any suggestions?
An underground dog fence can be pretty cheap if you do it yourself, ($100 for a Walmart brand, $300 for the Rolls Royce)
Installation is pretty quick and easy if you already have a fence, just run the wire along your existing fence, securing it with zip ties.
