Ok I left my curling iron on too long and it left a light brown mark on my countertop. I dont know for sure what the countertop is made out of but it looks like a off white marble of some kind. I already tried toothpaste and baking soda - didnt work. And i dont want to scratch it - so I dont want to use anything too abrasive. Thanks!

What is the technique for homemade hot dog waffles?
I found a hot dog waffle maker in my parent's kitchen cabinet. Unfortunately the instruction manual is missing. I tried to make some hot dog waffles, but only end up with a mess, e.g. the batter sticks to the iron or the batter spreads out of the iron. Is there a technique to obtain results such as those commercially sold? Yes, you do put in hot dogs or weiners in the batter. I tried oiling it well but still end up with batter sticking to the griddle.
Try Bisquick or Jiffy Mix, if you have not already. Use the waffle batter recipe, which includes extra oil. Also oil the waffle maker.
Most waffle makers are messy, as far as run over, if you are trying to fill them up.
Black iron is cast iron black the whole way through?
i got a cast iron skillet from my grandmother and the inside bottom is a dull brown color. i don't think it's rust because it won't scrub off--it just keeps coming no matter how much i scrub or wipe it. i almost think it's what's underneath the black exterior of the cookware. Is that possible or is cast iron black the whole way through? (i haven't seasoned it yet and don't know when it last was, if ever) is anything wrong with it?
Cast iron skillets are cast iron all the way through (some of the newer cast iron *pots* --called "Dutch ovens"-- may also be coated with colored enameling inside and/or out, but not cast iron skillets).
The brown color you see is either the "natural color" of the iron somewhat oxidized or actual rust layer (which has to be sanded off... scrubbing won't do much). The black color eventually happens to a very well seasoned cast iron piece because it's had some kind of fat baked onto it many-many-many times, which also makes the surface fairly non-stick (and that smooth black color is highly prized!).
You should definitely hang onto that one though (and fix it up) rather than buying a new one because the older ones were much smoother from the start and make the best and quickest non-stick surfaces!
There are various ways to fix up old cast iron skillets (and many people prowl thrift stores, etc., just to find them), but basically you'll need to sand them smooth (opinions vary on what to use), then "season" with fat and lots of heat for a few hours. (Many people also feel the first use should be with something really fatty and/or fried.) After that, every time the skillet is used (and rinsed and oiled again properly) it will build up more and more of that wonderful well-seasoned black surface.

Bathroom iron plumbing HELP how to remove a cast iron drain pipe from a joint?
Hello I have a problem. I recentley tore apart a bathroom. when i was going to replace the floor i noticed a rusted peice of cast iron drain pipe (for bathtub and toilete) The rust is right at the v joint that goes to the tub and toilette is there anyway to remove one of these joints or do you have to cut them out. I have gone through the rest of the house and the pipes are fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Dont use a sawzall or circular saw!! You'll be cuttin for days!! If you have a grinder use it with a diamond cutting wheel...the wheel is about 50 bucks but well worth it....you'll cut your cutting time by 80 percent......the no hub coupling is right and convert it to PVC is right also....there is a way to get the pipe out of the hub but it's a long process and I cant really explain it without being able to show you.....you basically have to use a hammer and pry bar or chisel and hammer away the lead that is holding the pipe in.....it's very tedious and you have to have patience......trust me tho...you want to cut it and replace it but not with a circular saw or sawzall!!!! I've done this a hundred times and have used several methods of cutting before realizing that the diamond blade on a grinder is best.......unless you have chain cutters which you more than likely do not and they are expensive for a one time use.....wear glasses and gloves and be careful!!! good luck
