Wrought Iron wall pendulum clock doesn't want to work?
i bought a pendulum clock at walmart and put in new battery's. It didn't work so i returned it and and bought the same pendulum clock again. This one didn't work too! Am i doing some thing work? Although it does not seem to apply to this clock http://www.walmart.com/ip/Infinity-Instruments-Classic-Wrought-Iron-Pendulum-Wall-Clock/11289606#ProductDetail which has a quartz movement, the pendulum on a true pendulum clock regulates the release of power for timing by adjusting the length. But the pendulum is also powered in its swinging by the power - so when you wind up a spring or add electricity, each time the pendulum swings the power source gives it a little boost to keep it going. So you need to look at the top of the pendulum and if it is just hanging from a hook without some connection or magnetic coil to push/pull on each swing, then the clock is not intended to have a swinging pendulum. And to be honest, at that price, I don't think it does. However, it does say "With its swinging pendulum" in the description so it should. The other battery powered clocks I have seen in operation with moving pendulums have very light ones. The image shows the pendulum slightly off center.
wrought iron How to paint bronze metal patina on wrought iron?
I just purchased a wrought iron pedestrian gate which was installed in an entry way in my back yard. It is all black. I would like to do a faux paint, bronze metal patina, but am unsure exactly how to go about doing it. Can anyone assist.

If it is already painted, you have a few choices. You can try to strip the existing paint off, or you can use an oil based primer. Trying to get a bronze patina is not easy, but it can be done with a little practice. Once you have your work piece primed, start with a coat of gold paint. Let this coat dry completely before continuing. Next get some Olive Drab Green and put a light coat of this on top of the gold. Before this coat dries, take some paint thinner on a sponge and lightly dab the green pant in some areas. Remember, a natural patina is not at all uniform so the best way to determine where and how much paint to remove it would be a good thing to get a photograph of a bronze sculpture and just look at that finish. There are some examples on the website of Bronze-Depot.com. Once this step is complete, mix a very small amount of gray paint into the green. Again look at your photo or whatever you have as a template, and little by little add and mix until you think it is light enough. Make sure to reserve a small amount of this because you will need it later. Get another sponge and use this to apply this paint. Do not use the one you had the thinner on, but keep it close by. Dab this lighter green color around and remember not to be consistent. When this dries, take the sponge you used with the thinner. Get the green paint you reserved and mix a little more gray paint along with a generous amount of paint thinner into this until you get the consistency of ink. Stand your gate up against something and soak the sponge in this paint and squeeze a small amount of this paint onto it and let it run down. I know this sounds like a lot to have to go through, but keep in mind that you are doing in days what it takes nature months or years to do. My advice would be to try this technique on something other than your gate as practice. One more hint would be to make the effect more pronounced as you go toward the bottom of the gate, because this is exactly how it works naturally. Don't get discouraged if you don't get it just right the first time. Good luck and I hope this works.

Use a daido saw and grove the wood rail out a little so as to fit over the metal rail,then screw them together from the bottom side.

How to remove a welded latch on a Wrought iron gate?
I am installing something in my backyard that will not work with my latches/strikers on my Wrought iron gates.
It's actually a cat fence that gets in the way of the latch/striker.
Is there a way to weld these off like you would with plumbing solder? Or is it basically cut and file? It would be painful if I had to go this (cut & file) route.
Use a right angle grinder or a dremel tool with a cut off wheel or cut and file as last resort.

Hello to all, I have the chance to purchase a wrought iron piece that is from the late 1800's, it is wearing several coats of paint that look terrible, some of the original metal is exposed, some is under tons of paint, could someone advise me the best way to deal with that if I buy it?
Also it is cracked in one spot, a clean break, could a welder fix that? Thanks in advance.
I have a few options that you can choose.
1) The easiest is to take the piece to a local metal working shop. They can do everything for a reasonable price.
2) If you have to do it yourself; Home Depot rents many tools. I haven't seen a self-contained sand blasting unit though.
To sand blast your piece you will need a high volume air compressor and a sand blaster unit. You will also need to purchase sand or another abrasive medium.
It is very important to use either a full face respirator or a respirator and safety glasses. The dust from silica sand (the most common media) can damage your lungs. It's also advisable to wear coveralls or the like as the sand gets everywhere! (Can you say sand in your shorts?)
Take the piece somewhere that a lot of sand will not be a problem and have at it! once the piece is clean, "Rust-Mort" or a similar product uses phosphoric acid to convert the iron oxide to iron phosphate which doesn't rust. Then, use a good direct to metal paint. "Hammerite" or "Rustolium" will do the job. There are also textured paints some folks like.
3) you can use a paint stripping compound. I have never had much success with this option. Paint it on, wait, then remove it with the paint. I usually have to do this several times. The final step is repainting your piece with the above paint options.
Clean up and install your piece. Have a drink, you survived.

How can I fix a wrought iron railing support without welding it?
Outdoor wrought iron stair railing supports have broken at the welds, is there some epoxy or the like which I can use to repair??
use JB Weld it as epoxy type material that works execellently for repairing metal parts you should be able to buy it at most auto parts or hardware store I've used it many times and it does work well
