I should have looked more closely at the comments to the post, but my ad hoc speculation was based on what I know about residential lighting. Commercial lighting is another story, as Robert's excerpt suggests. The luxury of having an office, not a cube in a farm, is that I don't use my overhead florescents, but instead use compact florescents in table and floor lamps. Not exactly a rosy glow, but much better for my demeanor than the overheads, and about as efficient.
Hey, im in SD too and my 5086 only stays on for 30 secs each time. Im thinking about changing the lamp and then color wheel. Wish I knew the exact fix. Im going to try to vacuum all the dust out first. I heard it could be the thermostat above the lamp is overheating from dust.
You did your research! The lamp door switch tends to go bad.# BP91-01231A. You can jump pins 1 and 3 to see if that's the problem, but it's probably not. The lamp fan #BP31-00024A as long as it turns, is good. The DMD fan #BP31-00023A same deal. My money's on #BP96-01472A, your lamp! I use Phillips PHI 389 to relamp it. But, this is the model where the big cap on the ballast #BP47-00037A bulges because of bad filter caps on the power supply #BP94-02261A. Swing the set around, take the back off, take the blue/white wire and wrap it around the lamp door switch and fire it up. If both fans turn, even if they don't, I'd be replacing the lamp first. Still could be a sticky color wheel #BP96-01579A also! I doubt it.
I am an associate from the Home Depot and I get to help out a lot of people in the light bulb and lamp aisle at my store. I did the exact research and found the same wall you did, nothing by way of a brand name. Big Lots as well as large chains such as us import their lamps from overseas, so really the brand isn't as important (at least to me) to the key features that the lamp says it has. And you did pick a great looking one at that, with the best type of lighting you can get: full spectrum. Full spectrum lighting means that it is a fluorescent bulb that has different gases in them than say a standard cool white or even a neutral white fluorescent bulb. Full spectrum is often referred to as Daylight or Natural Sunshine bulbs because of the non-yellowing glow it gives off, in other words a natural full spectrum of light, which is bright white. Since it consumes 27watts of power, it will give off the equivalent of 100 watts in light that you will see, which is perfect for a floor lamp. Not too much for blinding you when reading, but not too low for…reading lol. Most models nowadays still don't have a dimming function so it may just have that one setting. But don't worry, it won't be like a tanning bed, even someone as pale as me will be safe and non-crispy underneath it.

I am an associate from the Home Depot and I get to help out a lot of people in the light bulb and lamp aisle at my store. I did the exact research and found the same wall you did, nothing by way of a brand name. Big Lots as well as large chains such as us import their lamps from overseas, so really the brand isn't as important (at least to me) to the key features that the lamp says it has. And you did pick a great looking one at that, with the best type of lighting you can get: full spectrum. Full spectrum lighting means that it is a fluorescent bulb that has different gases in them than say a standard cool white or even a neutral white fluorescent bulb. Full spectrum is often referred to as Daylight or Natural Sunshine bulbs because of the non-yellowing glow it gives off, in other words a natural full spectrum of light, which is bright white. Since it consumes 27watts of power, it will give off the equivalent of 100 watts in light that you will see, which is perfect for a floor lamp. Not too much for blinding you when reading, but not too low for…reading lol. Most models nowadays still don't have a dimming function so it may just have that one setting. But don't worry, it won't be like a tanning bed, even someone as pale as me will be safe and non-crispy underneath it.
